E-learning refers to learning supported by the web. It can take place inside classrooms as a support to conventional teaching, such as when students work on the Web during class. It also can take place in virtual classroom, in which all course work is done online and classes do not meet face to face. In these cases, e-learning is a part of distance learning. Distance learning refers to any learning situation in which teachers and students do not meet face to face.

Using simulation and interactive scenarios, the course instructs students how to assess staffers' skills and competencies identify the best management approach in assisting and directing people based on the their competencies, and partner with individuals to help them be more productive and self-sufficient.
